David G. Millen Intermediate School

Lundgren served as the Construction Manager for the David G. Millen Intermediate School project for the Palmdale School District. The project, which was delivered utilizing the CM Multiple-Prime delivery method, benefitted immensely from an extensive Pre-Construction services effort. The result of this effort was fewer Pre-Bid RFIs, clearly defined scopes of work, a lower project change order percentage (1.84%), and ultimately, the project finishing well below the original projected cost and a project of which the District and Palmdale community can be very proud.

The 96,000-square-foot project sits on 16 acres, and is designed so its facilities surround a central courtyard and multipurpose space, providing students with a safe and secure environment. With more than 40 classrooms, the school includes standard, science, music and home economics classrooms, an art lab, computer lab, special education classrooms with flexibility for large group and individual instruction, a library and media center, a gymnasium and physical education center, locker rooms, a multipurpose room/cafeteria and administrative offices.

Serving students in seventh and eighth grade, the school was built to accommodate up to 1,100 students, with construction made possible by funds from 2012’s voter-approved Measure DD. Lundgren utilized numerous cameras staged at the work site to continuously capture progress images providing regular updates for the client and inspection team. Additionally, all the images were added to the architectural plans, providing additional resources for future maintenance or reference needs.
